The WHO’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is the globally recognized framework concept for understanding and documenting functioning and disability. It complements the concept of ICD (International Classification of Diseases) that describe medical diagnosis and health disorders. Only by incorporating the ICF can individual therapy or care concepts be derived. In German-speaking countries, ICF is increasingly used in health and social care and is used as a common interdisciplinary language. Since care is a central part of social infrastructure and professionals in the care professions cooperate with all actors in health and social care, the knowledge and practical application of ICF in care is indispensable. This practice manual:
Introduces the biopsychosocial model of the ICF
Describes the components of the ICF, such as body function, structure, activity, participation/participation as well as environmental and personal factors.
converts the presented contents into case examples and shows possibilities of care documentation
Offers practical and understandable instructions for ICF-oriented work for nursing professionals.
Strengthens the professionalisation process in care and helps to improve interdisciplinary cooperation.
Can be used in the training and practice of nursing professionals.
